WD engine temperature indication

Has anyone come up with an innovative way to substitute a generic temperature gauge setup for the original temperature gauge? I hear the after market original type is quite expensive.

The AGCO gauge with A-C logo is quite expensive @ $70. A generic gauge that fits the original location is about 1/2 that price from Tractor Supply, Quality F & F or several dealers that are listed in parts and services on this site. Don't know what a cheapie temp guage costs at a automotive supply store, but I'll bet that by the time you get it adapted you'll wish you had got the $35 one that just screws in.

Mine was rigged with the auto store cheapie. Went to the drain plug on the left side of the block. The gauge was mounted on top of the engine cowling just in front of the gas tank. The mounting bracket had been bent back by branches and strightened so many times it was nearly broken in two and the gauge didn't work to boot. I clipped the lead at the block, removed the cheapie gauge and bought the generic replacement gauge that Butch mentioned above for $25. Tractor even runs better now (OK, maybe I just think so because it *looks* so much better ;-).
