Ihave a b- allis chalmers tractor i can pull it to start it works fine that way the problem lies in trying to start with the battery i want to know if it has the right size battery i been told it needs a 9 volt battery and has a postive ground now the symtems are as follows put a new bttery in engage the starter and it seems as it wiil not turn engine over or not turn it over fast tofire . any help would be great. thanks brent

You have to have good connections. Besides what the others have said, pull the starter out of the hole. Wire brush the starter case and the hole in the bell housing to get all rust and paint off. seat the starter good in the hole. make sure your battery cable is connected to a good ground bolt. remove and wire brush it clean. check your generator to see if it is 6 or 12 volt. will start on either, but you can burn out the generator if you use the wrong battery.

If you have to buy a battery, I have 8 volt batterys in all-work just fine! TSC has them, probably a lot of other places too.

I also agree with Andy. Make sure you get zero-gauge or one-gauge cables. Any other cable is too small and won't let enough amps get to the starter.

Brent, what ya need is 6 volt battery, unless its been changed to 12 volt. if its still 6 volt get as big a battery that will fit the battery box. pos ground is correct, besure to use the correct 6 volt cables, and remember, the cable areas should be, clean, bright, and tight. you may have to have the started checked out also. hope this helps.
