I just bought my first AC tractor. I'm pretty sure it's a C. Could someone tell me exactly where to find the serial numbers. I did find the serial numbers for the motor. They were CE161705PA, but still can't find numbers for tractor. Paint is a mess. Thanks Much

look to the side of the transmission shift lever. should start with "B" or "C" and then several numbers. the letter is the model, the numbers are the serial number and can tell the year by looking at the "Serial Number" link to the left of this page.

Still can't find the right number. The only number I can find is on a bolted cover on the side of the trans. That number is 20810A. Does this number mean anything. Is the tractor serial number gonna be a raised number, or an engraved number? Thanks Again. Ps. Steve, thanks for your reply.

setting in the seat you see the shift pattern 1-2-3-R cast into the transmission. In front of theat there is a casting that says "tractor Number" between the two is the serial number punched into the case. If there are several layers of paint you may need to wire brush it. If there is no number then the transmission case broke sometime in the past and they changed out at the dealership and did not punch the old SN on the new case.

my "B" engine number is 90000 and it waqs built in 1948. They made about 20000 B and C tractors a year, that would put you up about 1952-53. If that is the case, you may have a "CA" not a "C". Do you have a 4 speed transmission? If so you have a CA. Ther are other differences in the rear axle and hydraulics to determine if it is a "CA" but I am not the expert you need for that. Do you have a bench seat or a steel bucket? Do you have a narrow tricycle front axle?

CAs had power shift rear wheels too and most had a clutch in the right rear axle. This was an option on early ones and standard on later ones.

I think you guys were right. I just picked up a Allis Chalmers original book. Going buy the pictures I have a CA not a C. I have a 4 speed trans not a three, and also a clutch lever to the right of the seat.
