HD5 Crawler Steering Clutch

Having trouble removing the left steering clutch from my HD5 (serial# HD5G-3619, if it matters). After removing brake hardware, 8 bolts on outside, and 10 bolts on inside, the clutch housing can be pried back and forth enough to see that neither hub is stuck to the housing, but it won't come out. Is there a pilot shoulder on one or both hubs that would require the hubs to separate from the housing more than just slightly to allow removal? If so, how is this separation achieved? There is no mention of this in the service manual-just says unbolt it and lift it out. Hasn't been that simple. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Haven't worked on it much for some time now, but was thinking maybe I need to get back on it. No, I haven't been able to get it out. On the last attempt, I wrapped a nylon strap around the OD of the clutch housing and chained it up to the loader bucket, but it still won't budge no matter how much prying is applied or how mashed flat the front tires on the loader are. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.

Gilbert, It has been a few years since I have done this, but if I remember there is a slight shoulder that has to be overcome to let the clutch out. How are you lifting the clutch?? I used a heavy come a long to pull mine out. First get a little pull on the hoist and then with a crow bar or large screw driver work the clutch from side to side and it increase the pull. It should not be too hard to come out, although any job on a crawler is tough, also these clutches are probably 200 pounds, so you will need some large tools, let me know how it comes. Johnny Dyer
