Need some feedback from some of you who know value of tractors. I have a Massey Harris Pony. A friend has offered me an even deal on a WD45. Is this a good trade?

At southern Wisconsin auctions MH Ponys in excellent condition are bringing some big dollars compared to the WD45.

This situation is like trying to compare "apples to oranges." (I know...that's baddd!!!) But they are two totally different tractors. I suspect the guy wants the M-H because it is definitely rarer. WD-45's sure aren't rare. The M-H is probably worth more in $$$ than the WD-45 but what do you do with a tractor? The WD-45 is a lot more tractor and I can't speak for you, but if it is in decent shape, I'd do it. Now, the guy who wants the M-H might be a collector or maybe just has the "hots" for that tractor. So it all comes down to what you want a tractor for. WD-45's are one of the all time great tractors and they can do a lot more than the Pony. My $.02.

I would do it if the 45 is running good and doesn't seem to have any major porblems. Change all oils when you get it and make sure the boot over the shift lever is good. In fact check this before you trade, if it isn't perfect check the oil in the transmission for water, tan color, or water drains out when you pull a drain plug, lowest point is in the pto on the bottom of the tractor.

WD has more horsepower, and in my opinion is a better machine. Lots made so parts are readily available.
