There is a 1948 Allis Chalmers G for sale this week locally. The man said his grandfather bought it new and they used it last year to mow. It has the original plow, sickle mower, blade and cultivators. It is in OK shape, but has been outside most of its' life. The paint is poor, it has good rubber, and they say the engine was new (rebuilt??) in 1995. It has a belly mower added on. This is an auction, what should I be prepared to pay for this? I want to use it as a tractor, not an antique. I would like to be able to do my own garden tilling and various other yard work. Are parts available? It needs brakes. Any idea how much this sold for new?

I have a G with : hydraulics, creeper low gear ,8V starting and charging, new rearer tires,restored,culitavor and runs great. $ 5800.00 firm.

Another thought:If this G has hydraulics, that will drive the price up. G's with hydraulics are much in demand.

There was a sale in lower PA last month where a junk G went for almost $1000. Unrestored G's in good running condition without implements generally sell for $1800-3000 in the mid-Atlantic region. The implements put a different spin on it, wonder if they will sell them separate or only as a package with the tractor. G moldboard plows are worth $300, disc plows $150-200. G sicklebar mowers are hard to find but the cultivators are common enough. Blades are often homemade but many of these are decent. Replacement sheet metal like hoods and fenders are very difficult to find, but most engine parts are generally available. A front-weight was available but is hard to find nowadays and very expensive if found. Original drawbars are hard to find. If it has not been shedded, look sharp at the gas tank;
leaks and rust-outs are common in tractors not kept under cover. Personally, I like G's and enjoyed using one in the past, but I have to agree that a B, C, or CA would be a better value tractor, be stronger, and have a wider scope of use.

Sales around here have been having poor turn-outs. However, I am afraid this little gem will be swiped up by an antique buyer. The sale bill says the tractor and implements are one unit. I will not buy the tractor unless it is sold as a unit. My husband is already anticipating the tinkering to repair and restore this tractor. I will let you know how it goes.

dont be suprised if it brings $2500-3500. The implement siwll help it go high. Probably be a couple collectors there. You might be better off with a "B" or "C" for about 1/2 the price.
