Can anyone help me? I am getting ready to restore an Allis Chalmers tractor for an FFA project. Neighbors and family members tell me that they think that it is a Model E. Where do I look to find a serial number and Model number on this tractor or similar styles of tractors. This tractor belonged to my great-grandfather and is thought to have been made in the late 20'or the 30's. I have taken a computer photograph of the tractor and would be able to send it to you, if you think you can help me.

Actually the 18-30, 20-35 and 25-40 were all model E's, but a lot of people just consider the 25-40's as E's.

I dont know much, but the made the "E" starting about 1918 and last one in 1936? The first serial number was 5000 and the last was 25000. Dont know, but a lot of tractors built in that era had the serial numbers on the rear axle or final drive case. Post a picture, Im sure everyone would like to see it. Most guys use photopoint.com to store pictures and attach to their posts.

Brent, the tractor serial number is on the transmission case just ahead of the gear shifter
quadrant. Model E was produced from 1930-36 and
it was known as the 25-40. The engine number I
think is on the left side of the cylinder block.
If you find the tractor serial number I can give
you the year of production. Nice tractor to keep
and restore with your family history. Good luck.

Thanks alot. I found the serial and engine numbers exacly where you said to look. The serial number is 24942 and the engine number is 45840. Your knowledge saved me alot of time trying to find these on my own. My reletives have told me that they think this tractor was made around 1932. Is this correct, and if not it would be great if you were able to tell me the actual year. I was also wondering if you knew of any websites or other resources that I could use to getmore information and history about this tractor and Allis Chalmers during this time period.
