Steering on '40B

Since I am still a bit of a rookie on these things, I need some help with my steering for my AC B. It was very stiff so I began taking it apart to clean and adjust. I need help on what I believe is a Gemming Steering gear. The housing cover on the sector gear does not seem to want to come off. I'm unclear on how the eccentric rivet and the adjusting sleeve work - both are frozen and cannot turn - do these need to be removed somehow before I can get the cover off? Once I get it cleaned and begin to put it back together, how do I properly make adjustments.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you have the Gemmer stearing gear you will have to take off the four nuts. a lot of the time the studs come out rather than just the nut coming off, thats ok. That cross shaft housing will have to slide off the cross shaft. If it is froze fast, that can be a job. The sector gear will not want to come out untill the housing has slid far enough on the cross shaft to be able to tip the cross shaft down enough for the sector gear to clear the main housing. I use heat on the cross shaft housing along with WD 40 or such and keep working it back and forth at the same time I am pulling to get it off. This is one time I hide my big hammers. You break the main housing and you no longer need to continue rebuilding it. After you get it apart and free you will understand how to adjust it I am sure.

Will an electric start C model steering box and shaft assembly (I'm assuming its a Ross box) go directly into a crank start B?

How much longer is the Ross shaft than the Gemmer?

Do you happen to know where is or who carries a Gemmer shaft and gasket set necessary to replace the shaft in a gemmer box?
