My 1953 WD-45 had been sitting outside under a tarp here in Minnesota since about December 1st.
Saturday I needed the tractor because my van got stuck in my muddy driveway (it's that time of year).

I put the battery in the WD-45, but as it had been
sitting in the garage for 4 months it didn't have enough juice to turn it over. It started easily
with the hand crank (okay I did initially forget to turn the gas on!)

In any case I'm a city boy and I had never used a hand crank before, so I was pretty impressed!

I just went through the same thing with my B. A couple of cranks after remembering to turn the gas on,there she went. who needs a battery anyway!

When I first got my WD a couple of years ago I bought based on someone else having looked it over for me. When it arrived the battery (6 volt)was shot so I jumped it with a 12 volt battery. It has a magneto so should have started?? Would not start. They had told me it always started on the hand crank so I figured I may as well try. Got one pull on the crank and she fired right up!! Go figure!!

Last December it was so cold for so long that my battery froze on my WD. It was about 5 below and my neighbor needed me to pull his 4x4 out of his woods. He was burried with a full load of firewood in the back. Anyway, I tried jumping it with my Bronco and it wouldn't start. Out of desperation, I turned the hand crank ONCE and it fired right up! I couldn't believe it, either. Aside from trying to steer the narrow front in fairly deep snow, it had no trouble pulling the fully loaded truck. Just had to steer with the brakes. These things are amazing! RC

Yes I believe all those things once I was in the woods cutting fire wood my WC wouldnt start with the starter. so I decided to cut a little more wood then walk to the house and take a battery back tomorrow. As i fell the next tree it hit the crank and it started right up. What a tractor.
