TIGHTEN TIRE RIMS?

When I run my "C" I hear a thumping noise coming from the back tires. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TIGHTEN THE RIMS UP. I am thinking it is the four bolts that hold the rim to the main hub (one has a + on it).Is there some tips to doing this? If you know of any, please help me out.Thanks for your time.

The clamp with the + on the head of the bolt is a bolt that is an ecentric. You notice one of the cross markings is longer than the rest. This marks the long side of the ecentric. Loosen the nut on this bolt and then rotate the head of the bolt so the long end of the cross moves toward the outside of the wheel (towards the rim). You will feel the bolt start to turn harder as the lug is moved toward the rim. Turn the bolt reasonable tight. If the bolt "goes over center" without becoming tight, then the lugs are worn. If they are worn, try to find some other lugs. These are tough to find. You can build up the lugs by welding, however, you must grind them smooth or they will cut through your rim. Have fun.

On a B Allis that I repaired for a friend, the rear wheel would not tighten properly. Discovered that the wheel bolts had bad threads and the nut stopped there before really tightening. The nut looked tight. Chased the bolt threads with a die and the nut threads with a tap, it tightened properly.
