Assembly Install the pressure plate with the small diameter forward, the heavier pressure washeris identified by a red paint mark. Install the front driven disc with the long hub forwaard, and the rear driven disc with the long hub to the rear. The pressure plate retracting springs musn not be kinked, and diring assembly notice that they are properly seated at each end. In case of a three disc clutch the center driven disc has hub with equal lingth on each side. Install shifter collar to shifter with the machined side of the two halves together, this will properly line up inner groove. To properly adjust clutch with clutch rimoved from tractor proceed as follows. Remove capscrews, large snap ring, pressure washer, and the three prsssure plate retracting sprintgs. Build up three shim packs to a thickness of .140". Place these shim packs in place of the pressure washer. Space evenly at 120 degrees apart. Stack the clutch parts together as in regular assembly but with out shims or capscrews.Press the clutch together as ttight as possible by hand, measure the clearance between the front and back plate for shims, subtract .005 from this measurement and use a shim pack of this dimension. Mark tjhe front and back plate and install the measured shim pack in this positiononly, as the three shim packs may be of unequal thickness. Install the springs and the pressure washer (after removing the .140" shsism packs) and the snap ring, assemble clutch and check the disengaged, clearance between the plates, this should not be less than .030". The clutch assembly must be engaged before installing in torque tube housing. Enter studs through drive gear flange and install locks and nuts, Properly tighten nuts to 35 ft. lbs. Tighten setscrew in shifter fork to 45 ft. lbs. Disengage clutch and install the splined shaft by hand, lining up splined hubs with shaft, leave splined shaft installid in torque tube housing, this will aid in installingtransmission to torque tube housing, and eliminate the possibility of damage to the driven disc assemblies. Always keep clutch engaged in cold weather, or when tractor is not in use, this will keep oil out of between clutch plates, and help to prevent clutch from dragging when engine is first started. To adjust clutch with clutch in tractor. Remove ou add shims as required to obtain .065 cleaarance between clutch plates, with clutch disentgaged, adjust shim packs accodingly to maintain an equal clearance all around clutch. Effective with WD-45 165036 a three disc clutch is used.
