Has anyone out there ever rebuilt a D-17 gas engine governor.Mine took a dump somewhere along the road since I purchased it in Dec.It ran ,but very poorely until I finally figured out it was the gov.The weights have flown apart and dropped along with the retaining pins.I'm in the process of tearing it down.Any hints or tips would be very valuable.Any place where I might get the parts that I need once I review the damages.

can you replace the weights and gear pulling the assembly out the back or do you have to work from the front removing the front timming cover which looks like one heck of a job

The governor mostly comes out with the magneto/distributor drive. There is a ball thrust bearing on the end of the shaft, don't drop it as you pull the drive out of the block/front cover. Look at how the gears are engaged, distributor rotor, or magneto drive slot, etc. and put it back the same way or your timming will be off too.

Check the timing gears carefully if one is damaged then they all probably are damaged. Installing one new gear with a damaged one will cause the new gear to be ruined.
