B brake bands

I can't seem to get the pin out of the fixed end of both of my brake bands on my AC B. The other two pins drove out pretty hard but I am afraid of breaking the final drive casting. I have tried Aerokroil and Liq. Wrench and heat and grumbling but nothing. I am considering cutting the pins, removing the bands and then trying again. Any ideas? Thanks, Tom

If you have a spare set cut them off close to the inside walls of the casting, heat them up, oil them. then beat them one at a time into hte opening. I found that I could move one side a lot easier than a full pin.

If you don't have a spare set, I used Dick's advice on my steering wheel to get mine out - More Heat! I heated them up, let them cool a bit, then lubed and beat. Once they finally moved they came out with just more lube. I don't have a lathe so I can't cut new ones so I had to be careful with the good set (the other set were junk so I used the cut method). A brass punch did not work - I had to use a short 1/2" steel to get load transfer. Also, try to beat from inside to outside - my holes did not go all the way through the inside wall of the casting, and I never would have gottent them out that direction.

BTW Dick I got that wheel off. I ruined the end of the shaft so I'll put a bolt in instead of the nut.

Rust is nasty stuff, If the only tolls you have is a 1/2" punch and a big hammer, and the inside of the casting is open to the pins over 1/2" you don't have to worry about breaking the casting.
Keep it wet with light oil and keep whacking away and it will move.
You can use heat if you have a torch, you can use an air hammer with a punch in it if you have one, or you can drill them out.

I think I will shop for an air hammer. I might as well look for a handle to hold a hack saw blade in case I have to cut them.
