D17 adding 2nd set hydraulic connections

I need to add a 2nd set of hydraulic conections to my D17. Can it be done? Is it worth it? Is there a kit? I can't tell if the current system is designed for two sets, and it was never added, or I will have to add a second valve control.

You have the right idea with the splitter. I dont know exactly what you are trying to do with the two different controls. Assuming you have a series 2 or 3 you should have a quick disconnect behind the seat that supplys oil to a rear implement cylinder when you work the hydraulic lever. One way is to put a splitter valve after the coupler. The splitter has 1 input and two output lines depending on which way you push its spool. With this you still use the single lever on the dash to control the two cylinders out back, but you must stroke the splitter spool to change oil routing. Another way is a new double spool valve. Run the pump output into a double valve with two seperate levers (like you buy from Northern Hydraulics). With this you dont need the lever on the dash. Two new levers side by side on the new valves. This would be best for something like a bucket lift-retract where you are constantly switching back and forth between the cylinders.

Thanks for the good info. I am going to use a round baler. One cylinder lifts the tailgate, the other one is for unspooling the twine and moving it across the bale. I like your idea of a splitter value after the coupler. I assume I would need one on each hose after the disconnect, or is a splitter value already designed for two lines going in and 4 coming out?

You talk about two hoses. I am now assuming you have a double acting system. You can raise and lower a cylinder with pressure? In the beginning i thought you had a simple power lift, and float down system. If you do have two hoses to the back end Im not sure this is a factory setup. Yes you can still setup control of two seperate cylinders, each with a power lift and power retract by usnig a double selector valve. I just looked in catalog 273 i have from

Item 9-5173 for $57.00 It has two input 3/4 inch ports and four outlet ports, a spool connects two ports at a time. The valve will take 3000 psi and 24 gmp flow. Hoses from NAPA will probably cost more than the valve. I havent bought anything from them in a year. Assume they are still in business in Lincoln, Ne.

It can be done a couple different ways.

The most simple would probably be to add a pump to either the belt pully mount or mount one on the front crank pully. . .

There was a factory option, you will have a hard time finding one.

I thought the simplest way would be to tap into the main line coming out of the existing pump to supply an additional value.
