Hello, I just bought an unstyled WC that I would almost consider a basket case (stuck engine, severe rust, no front wheels, etc.) There are four things that concern me most, the hood will need some serious patching, there is no small gas tank, the radiator sheetmetal is rotten, and the seam at the bottom of the main gas tank is ruptured with rust. How hard is it repair or replace the gas tank and radiator? Thanks!

My good radiator guy (could fix about anything) couldn't fix 3 of my potential radiators. I finaly found a good one. The big gas tank is easy enough to find in a salvage yard. Probably better ones with less rust that would be cheaper to buy than yours to fix. Does the hood have holes for the small tank? Don't really need one unless you want to do a real nice restoration. Another one to find in that salvage yard. And, I hate to bust your bubble, but those are the EASY problems you are looking at. Wait till they tell you the head is cracked beyond repair, the crank can't be ground any more, and the block is going to take $500 to weld back up. I've got 3 years and close to that many grand in mine and it still doesn't run. I did get the engine back in the chassis today. Settle in for a long hard expensive fight.

Thanks for the advice. I hope the engine is in decent shape. The tractor looks to have been sitting for a very long time. I'll start scanning the salvage yards, my hood does have the holes for the small gas tank. I am nearing completion on my first restoration, a 1945 Farmall M. This Allis is my first venture into orange and I want to bring her back as close to original as possible. -BTD
