Allis G: Can't get oil pressure-runs great-got solutions???

My father and me have got an Allis Chalmers G model we are restoring. The engine runs but we are having trouble getting any oil pressure. We have changed the oil pump components to new parts, put a new oil gauge on it and cleaned out the line. Oil is not even reaching the gauge. The end of the gauge is still clean?? We have taken the engine off several times and adjusted things but can't get any results. Has anyone run into this problem with a G? Any suggestions would be kindly appreciated!!

Thanks Clickent!! We will look into all that you discussed. One question though, where is the relief valve located on the G?? I think we Know but not sure. Thanks.

The relief valve is a plunger type and is located on the side of the engine rear mounting flange on the camshaft side. It is simply a spring and either a ball or small piston. The idea is that too high pressure will push the ball or piston back into its bore allowing the oil to bypass. Spring free length is 1 15/16.

I also forgot to mention one thing. Forgive me for stating the obvious but you did put the drive pin in the gear shaft. Good luck.

I am not a G expert but I am familiar with the setup used on that tractor. Here are some things to check:
1) You said you replaced pump components but is the pump body badly worn out? The clearance between the gear and body should be no more than .004
2) Gasket thickness for the cover is critical, should be .007
3) I would check the relief valve first. The bore can get gunky (new word for the day). The valve could be stuck open.
4) Lastly, when I rebuild these type of oil pumps I always pack them with petroleum jelly. It helps them get their initial prime.
