B mag problem

Last night i found out that the mag drive has gone soft, that is any preasure from the mag pushes the drive in not allowing it to turn the mag. i am not much of a mechanic and have never ran into this problem before. What holds the drive to stop it from backing out? How do I fix it.

Scott, are you saying that the impluse does not click? Have you taken the Mag off the tractor?
If it just don't click, it should run if pull started. If it runs when being pull started it could be a broken coupling drive spring or coupling pawl spring. The coupling pawls them selves sometimes stick and will not strike the pawl stop pin.

Thanks. What we found was that the the rod from the throtle controls the resistence of the mag drive, luckly before i took the plate off the mag drive. All we needed to do was rest the rod in the throtle by 1/2". We found that we had this problem when trying to reset the timing. I also thought that the coils were cooked, i'm hoping that it was just this rod being off set. once again thanks.
