I'm aware that many of the D-14's & 15's have problems with 3rd gear. What about the D-17's? Do they have simular problem areas, and just how much of a problem are they? I've got a need for a "utility" tractor and want it to have a gas engine. I've been told to look at these models specifically, so I'm doing a little research before buying. Also, how common is power steering on these D's?

Paul, I have heard of various D's that jumped out of gear but my series I D17 never has. I think the newer series IV's mostly had power steering but most of the older ones did not. I like the D17, mostly use it for a little plowing, bushhoging etc and does great. Good luck
