Used Antifreeze Disposel

How do you guys dispose of your used antifreeze? There don't seam to be any recycling sights around hear. I'm tempted to dump it in the drain at our local carwash. Dues most carwashes have sanitary sewer hook ups?? What about brake fluid

Dumping it down drains shouldn't even be a consideration. I work in the maintenance dept for a very large trucking fleet and we NEVER dispose of antifreeze period, in fact it is never drained out of the engines, it is tested periodically for freeze protection to -30 if it is above that we add pure antifreeze to get it to -30 then we use a test strip to test the PH and add SCA (supplemental coolant additives) to correct the PH. Same is done with large quantitiies only it is run through a filter. I'm sure that the companies that manufacture antifreeze will tell you to periodically "change" it with new but they are in business to sell antifreeze. We have over 5000 power units with engines that run from 800,000 to 1.2 million miles before they receive any major repairs so it must work.

Put it in the tires on your tractor. It won't rust the rims if you get a little on them. I have had it in the rears on a C for about 15 years now

My local health dept gladly takes pretty much all household and automotive fluids. You might consider calling them.

Rod; The thing to remember about antifreeze, brakefluid, oil,etc. is they are toxic. It's not a good idea to dump them down drains or any where else. Try your local auto supply dealer most these days collect waste oils,brake fluid and anti-freeze. There is also oil reclaimers in your phone book. J.L.
