got a question for you there dick, on my 43 C the spindles for the front wheels comes out behind the steering post on the bolster. my dads 48 C comes out in front of it. question 1 is who's is correct? question 2 i just got a new muffler (original apperance) in my manifold there are 2 7/16 threaded holes. the slot in the muffler will slip over the bolt, what holds it tight? i thought if i got a long enough bolt to go thru the manifold and "pinch" the other side of the tube against the back of the manifold that this would hold tight? and one last question, my air cleaner stack is 8-10" longer than any others i have seen, what gives? sorry for the length of post but i see all you do with the C's and B's so i thought i'd ask. thanks also here is a photo of the 2 C's at my photopoint page.

The word bolster threw me. All that I have ever taken apart have been welded slightly forward of the spindle. I might turn one around to see what it would like.

In regard to the position of the spindle in relation to the post, We have a 42 C with the dual front (tricyle) front end. The axle was attached to the post either directly on top of the spindle or slightly to the front. We were breaking the welded connection where the post connected to the spindle. AC changed this arrangement so the post was welded slightly to the rear of the spindle. Perhaps they changed this on the wide fronts also.

The old style was the same as the picture with or without the heat retainer. The two holes were used on the CA as in the picture at the link.
