The lift on my CA is very slow lifting when I have an implement hooked to the 3 point hitch. If there is no implement on the lift it goes up and down very fast. I checked the oil level and it is ok, however the oil is foamy looking. I just recently purchased this tractor so I'm not sure what kind of oil is in it, I think the guy I bought it from said universal tractor fluid. Any help is appreciated.

Dale,
What kind of oil is in the system? If it is motor oil, is it non detergent? Detergent type oil will foam as you describe. If you aren't sure, drain and refill the system with 20W non detergent oil or a high quality hydraulic oil like Hytran or equivalent.

Phil

The CA pump is a 4 piston pump with one of the pistons being smaller for traction booster oil.
If one or more pistons stick or a piston spring
breaks the speed will be reduced-especially under
load. Dismount the pump to check these parts. Bill

I've had my Ca for about 5 years now and I'know that the hydrauic lift is know for leaks over time mine is yet to have any but if air was getting into the liquid you have a leak i'd say, which could maybe be sealed, how long of a time is it taking for it to lift?

also, you could be loosing pressure. do you hear the relief vavle lifting when raising a load? Might want to put a pressure gague in the line to test. Going over relief will also cause oil to foam. does not take much pressure to raise no load.

I can here the pump making some noise when trying to lift a load, however I'm not sure if it is the relief valve. If it is over pressuring what is causing it and how do I fix it. If the pump has the wrong oil in it would changing the oil fix the problem? With the oil being foamy I wonder if someone has put the wrong oil in it. Will a universal hydraulic oil work?

i think you have several good ideas from above. The first thing would be to drain and put in good hydraulic fluid. This would eliminate any simple problem since you dont know what is in it now. Then I would chekc the pressure while raising empty and raising full.Dont take a lot op pressure to raise empty. If you are not building up to 2500 psi and implement is slow, and you here a squeeling noise when raising, then the pump is bad or leaks internal (bad springs/ piston) or relief valve, etc is stuck or broke.
