I have a rear mount sickle bar mower for my A.C."B" it mount's on the draw bar with 2 bolts I am told it was made for the "B". its an a.c. unit.I just haven't seen any like it at any shows over the years. It uses the "B" hyd. cyl. to lift it I have used it to mow 3 acres hay for the last 21 yrs. would just like to know more about it, is it rare?I don't want to sell it, just curious, Thanks in advance ,George

I have an undermount mower has described by one of the persons that replied to your inquiry.

AC did make a rear mounted mower as you describe. I believe it was designated as the No. 3 or No 5 mower. It uses most of the same mowing parts that were used in the undermount mower.

I believe that I have a manual for this mower. I will not part with it, but could photo some parts of it for you it you desire. Please let me know.

I thought they were rare until last year, when I found 2 within 2 weeks (I bought one). I know how they mount, but have not had mine on the tractor with hydraulics (it was on a C with manual lift). Can you post pics or a brief description of how the hydraulic cylinder lifts it? ie.e., does it act directly or use the rockshaft on the back of the tractor somehow.

D13: The mower is a semi- mount it has a tail wheel, the hyd. cyl. (a small one) mounts along side the sq. tube frame of the mower on a stud and pushes a linkage brackett that lifts the mower cutter bar(not very high tho) there also is a hand adj. for angle of cutter bar, sorry no pic. at present. It also has a safety hinge on it controlled by a spring so if you hit something(like a post) it will swing back, (rearward)make sure it is not frozen up, otherwise tractor front end will make an abrupt side slide! not too nice when you are mowing a ditch bank, (VERY EMBARRASING and dangerous)+ you need a BIGGER tractor to pull it out of the ditch, been there,done that (Neighbor got a laugh out of it tho) George.

Pretty interesting. My mistake, mine is a belly mount (uses 2 bolts on the drawbar, and mounts on the torque tube) which is quite different. Your unit sounds a lot like the Oliver rear mount I have. I once tried to mow overgrown lawn grass with the 7' mower set all the way down - as soon as I got into it it spun the tractor around.

I have to recant my statement about the commonality - I haven't seen an AC rear sickle in any of the shows I've been at either. Sounds neat and I'll keep an eye out for one - I'd like to add one to my machine (it's a pain to swap the underbelly implements).
