John, It sounds like you are having linkage problems. Best way to check, is to put a hydraulic pressure gauge (600psi) into the test ports on your power director shifting valve. This valve is on the right side of the torque housing, you will see a spool move in & out of this valve when you shift the power director (two speed). There are two 1/8" pipe plugs there, remove one at a time & install the gauge. One is for the low speed clutch & one is for the high speed clutch. Do one at a time, unless you have two gauges, then put one in each test port. start up your tractor in NEUTRAL, & shift into whichever speed you have the gauge attached to. When the clutch is activated you should see 250-280 psi. If you do, no adjusting is needed. If you don't, wiggle the shift lever, try to shift the handle farther, or shorter, & see if this changes the pressure. If any of these things do, you have a linkage problem, see where its loose or compensate by adjusting the rod nuts. Sometimes adjusting high range can make low range worse, this means something is worn out. Tips on where to look 1. The gate that holds the handle in place on console can wear & not hold the handle far enough in gear. Usually high range 2. The bushing in the torque housing, where the linkage shaft rotates, can be worn out or gone. This will not let you get enough stroke on the shift spool. 3. The spool in the valve body can be sticking (very common) the spool sits inside of a hollow shifting spool & is centered by springs. the hollow spool can stick & the springs will allow full travel of the spool that you see moving from the outside of the valve. take the plug out in the valve body (opposite end of the shift spool that's hooked to the linkage) & the innards can be slid out (after link disconnecting) through that hole & serviced . 4.If clutch pressure remains low, no matter what you do, either set up the relief in the shift valve or you have an internal leak (seal rings, o-rings, bad tube). Hope I didn't get too long winded.
