The B operators manual says final drive use 140 wt gear oil for above 32deg. F and 90 wt for below 32deg. F.

It says the same for the transmision EXCEPT if your tractor is equiped with hydraulic then use 20 wt oil. I use 20 wt hydro/trans oil from any tractor dealer because it does not foam. If you use heavy wt oil with the hydraulic ,then the dydraulic will be very slow to act especially in the winter.

Nigel, whatever you decide to use in the transmission, remember, it needs to be a non-detergent oil to prevent foaming. Most folks are using a premium hydraulic oil such as Hy-Tran or AGCO 821. For the final drives, you need EP90 gear lube.

You can use the same oil in the engine, transmission and hydraulic- pto system. I have one tracotr i used 20wt oil in everything. I had another i used 10w-30 in everything. You know the "final drive" or lower gear reduction is the axle drop box. It has the sheetmetal hump cover at each wheel end. I used 90 wt gear oil. you have to take the sheetmetal cover off to drain.
