Someone told me the other day that I should not put antifreeze into the radiator of my G because the thermal siphon cooling system in these machines were designed to work with distilled water which has a different viscosity etc. than 50% antifreeze. I was told that antifreeze does not move enough to keep the engine cool. After seeing a lot of welded heads on these machines (freezing) it has me wondering. Anyone have any solid information of this?

I just bought a '48 G last summer, & it had antifreeze in. The engine looks and runs fine. I have a new G owners manual, and it states: Before & during freezing weather, it is advisable to fill cooling system with anti-freeze. Because of the higher operating temperature, alcohol should not be used, Ethylene-glycol or its equivalent should be used.

My G has anti-freeze in it - living in Michigan, I would be in trouble if it didn't. It hasn't overheated in the summer yet ...
