i have replaced and tried 3 differnet pumps, gone through and repaired each one, but still my lift doesn't work. any suggestions or ideas? thanks

I was going to suggest the same thing, a reasonable thing for someone who didn't know Chalmers tractors to do- not engauge the PTO. Other than that maybe the cams are worn off or missing from the shaft in the PTO housing?

With the pto on does it go around? If not then you need to replace the woodrif key. It's a half moon piece of metal abought a 1/4" thick. It requires you to remove the bell housing. It's a quick fix to do. The other thing could be the fluid in the transmition. If you haven't changed the fluid check it. If the fluid is white not an oil looking mix, maybe you have water in it. The water would get in through the shifter if there is a way in (boot is missing). If all this checks out then boy I would say that the fingers on the pump or the lobes on the cam are warn. A bought all that could restrict the pump from working. hope this would be help. I had to do this rundown when I last ran the bush hog. It ended up being the key. ed

Are you putting 20 weight motor in the rear end?
You should be. The punp will not work with gear
oil in the rear.

I pulled apart the pump on a G Allis and found that someone had put a gasket between the plates. This allowed enough room for the fluid to move around the gears instead of being forced out. In short, the fluid was just being whipped. Its a long shot but easy to check.
