I need some information an a Deutz D-50 tractor. I know where one is for sale (diesel engine); I've been talking with the ownwer over the telephone so I don't really know what condition it is in. Before I drive out to see it I would like some information about this tractor. What is your opinion of this tractor? Are there any weak spots (e.g. transmission, hydraulics, engine)? I intend to use it as a chore tractor to move round hay bales (1200 - 1500 lb). It will be necessary to start it in the winter (down to -40 degrees farenheit). Is it an easy tractor to work on (i.e. repair)? Are parts going to be a problem?

I have a Duetz 4006D that I use for mowing, plsnting and general choring around the farm. It has been very dependable, parts are expensive but readily available from AGCO. It really starts hard if the temperature is below 30 but I remedy that by keeping it warm and the battery charged. You also should check to see if the air preheater is working in cold weather. The Deutz is a very good engine, well built, used in lots of construction equipment. One has to be careful to keep the air cooling system clean and free of dirt and chaff to that things won't overheat. I am not sure about the rest of the tractor, but I have seen a few used up here in Northern NY where the temp goes to 30 below. good luck
