Need help identifying model of AC tractor

Elderly neighbor lady found out I have a passion for old tractors and has offered her old AC and single bottom plow to me. Been sitting for over 15 yrs under shed about to collapse.

All I know is that it is red, has Allis-Chalmers on the tank, 4spd, 1 reverse, wide front end, don't recall a 3pth. Looks to me like a "B" but very lightweight compared to my Oliver 550.

Seems to be as many models as pictures when looking in the photo section.

Is there a website that has all models lined up to view to get an idea? What info can I get from tractor that will identify model so I may offer fair price? Will try to post picture in next couple of weeks.

I have AC 5040 do not which manual to buy for engine rebuilding info.

Shep look on the left side engen flang were it boltes to the clutch housing on top there is a number it should start with D.You may have to clean the area of dirt and paint to see the number but it is there!Sounds like you found your self a D series!You better hope it's not a series 2 D-10 or I am comeing to get you,I have been trying to find one for 15 years with no luck. Ron

Well -
I went down to neighbor lady's today and dug rig out from under vines, brush etc.

Today I now know that is not red but ORANGE! From reveiwing previous posts I assume this is Persuian (sp) Orange #1 or 2. Also read that ORANGE is a good thing. Man oh man, ORANGE and Meadow Green guess I could be the 'Punkin Man!' LOL!!

Anyhow, it is marked Allis-Chalmers on the tank (letters are black or deep blue inside with white outline), it is definitely 4spd, 1 reverse, adjustable wide front end. It also has a 3pth, with swinging drawbar, has some hydraulics (lines and controls) for what I don't yet know.

Casting # RH side fwd of shifter = AM4617-3
Casting # LH side under seat = 223845
LH side of metal below fuel tank reads =
Series II, D1?.

Does any of this help identify this rig? I am still plowing thru all the material listed in this forum. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
Still hoping to post photo in couple of weeks.

I'm the owner of 1955 B and 1953 CA both have same torque tubes with bosses.The starter switch
on top and cast marks beside oil dip stick are the same.The only difference being is front ends,
B has curve axle. CA has strait axle and bosses
on front of steering housing.Both have snap coupling.The rear wheel hubs are fasten with one
large nut on B.This was on the older model B or
so I though.Three speed tranmission. T Adams

The starter on a CA has the wire connecting to the battery cable on top and the B and C connects at the bottom. The B's and C's do not have the bosses on the torque tube as in this picture.

That's funny, my 1952 "B" has the bosses on the torque tube just like in the picture.

Shep,
If it looks like a B but has a 4-speed, it almost has to be a CA. The B and c had 3-speeds.
the CA is a great little tractor. They will work the wheels off most anything close to their size!

Phil in mid 1954 till the end of prod. the B could be had with a 4 speed. I have a 1957 B with a 4 speed.

Look for the serial number by the transmission shift lever. Then go to the "Serial Number" link at the left of this page and compare. You can get the model and year. There is also a link to average prices paid for AC tractors.

Thanks for the info. I also just got done reading the informative online book "The little A-Cs" located on this site. Printed off some key pages.

Sounds as if these tractors are pretty common and one should not pay a great deal of money for one.
After reading article it sound like this rig is a C or CA since it has battery powered starter.

I don't pretend to know anything about AC as I am an Oliver guy. Do you enjoy your machine?

I plan to give this one to my wife as a means to persuade her that we need another tractor. :)

I had a CA and sold it to my buddy a couple years ago. Looking for a B now. If you look around you can usually find B or C that is decent for $800. I have seen $500 and $1500 tractors also. None of these were restored, but decent and runnable. The starter goes more by year than model. The B had starter in the later days. In the early 1940s the C was not electric, but later they were. Hope you get the one your looking at, sounds like a winner.

CA has hand clutch in addition to foot clutch. Sticks up on driver's right. C does not.

Larry, Does your platform have the rectangular hole punched out where the hand clutch lever is supposed to be? I have a 51 CA #669,it had a hand clutch when new but has since been removed.The clutch is still there but has been locked up somehow.One of these days I'm going to fix it. ct
