My husband is attempting to restore an Allis B, but the firing sequence does'nt seem to match up with whats in the manual. Any suggestions would be helpful since he's been in the shop for a week now.

Again, thanks so much for the info. This tractor thing is somewhat of a mystery to me, but I'm learning and willing to indulge him, since he indulges me and my 15 sled dogs.. we all have our hangups!

Where is the spark hitting when the fire mark is in the hole of the tractor? When the first piston is in the tdc the fire mark should be in the hole on the other side of the tractor (it's a bolt hole). If after testing you find out it's on another cylinder you will have to retime from the cam. Not a problem, I had to do it and the job is easy if done right. The cam and the gear that runs the govener and the mag may be out of time. If it is it's been worked on and has been put in wrong. My allis b had it 180 off. Fire was on 3 and Kicked like a mule. Fixed runs on 1 and startes smoothly. Try the test and find out where the fire mark meets tdc of the piston and see if this is cylinder #1. Let us know how you make out with the tractor. Yes if your in the tractor this far you have tractor fever. Hope this helps. Ed

This is where I would start. Take the cap off and turn the motor over to see witch direction the rotor is turning to make sure your wires are folling the same way. If that is not it then I would move the wires the same direction and fireing order one hole at a time to see if it will start. I;m assuming the distributer was put back in at random. Just take your chair out to his shop if you want to be with him because he has Orange Fever and it won't pass until it is running.

The manual will be correct. 1-2-4-3 .
Number one plug is to the front of the engine with that plug wire going to the mag cap hole with the arrow.(top inside) Number two plug wire goes to the top outside hole on the mag cap.
