I have cooling water getting into #3 c ylinder, after pulling the head,I found a possible head gasket failure between #2&3 cylinders. How can I check the wet sleeves for cracks before I put a new head gasket on and possibly not fix the problem? I am trying not to pull any of the wet sleeves if possible. Would a cracked sleeve be visable to and old retired umpire? TNX --DEE

Dee,
Better have the head checked for cracks too. If water gets into a cylinder of a tractor at operating temp it can crack the head in the combustion chamber area. Had that happen to me on one of mine a few years back. Kinda expensive, had to buy a head and then got it redone, cost me about $275 total plus gaskets.

Good luck,
Phil

A crack bad enough to leak like this should leave a rust trail which would certainly be visable. Probably the head gasket.
