I'm new to working on my 1940 AC B - the shaft that turns the water pump and fan is a bit sloppy - is there any way to tighten this, or just let it go? (I'm not even sure how it can be taken apart) Also, how is this shaft lubricated properly?

Biggest prob I had was pulley groove too wide for belt;fan wouldn't turn when running, had to pull radiator, remove fan and pulley. The center of pulley area was full of old rubber preventing any adjustment, I sprayed solvent and finally scraped outenuff gook to get the two pulley pieces free, reinstalled and works great even w/old fanbelt. Not too bad, really. Good wrenching to you.

Tim,
Sounds like it's time to replace the bearing and probably the seal in your water pump.

No adjustment and no place to lube.

I've seen International units that had a screw hole. The screw was to be taken out and the lube was shot in every day or so. Wonder why allis did't do that. I have a Allis b and as far as I see there isn't any place to lube ether. Ed

They use sealed bearings. Hard to lube a sealed bearing without breaking the seal.
