D17 live hydrolics

I recentlt bought a D17. I beleave it is a 1958 model if I am looking at the right #. It has a three point. Does this year tractor have live hydrolics? Ive been told it has, but only operates with the clutch out and out of gear. Is there a lever somewhere ?? Thanks!

I worked on a series III built in 63 and it was not live. the series IV in 64 had live hydraulics. You have a series I or II which did not. you have to have the clute out to work the pto and hydraulics. does not have to be in gear, just clutch out.

The s/n is on the left side of the clutch housing (stamped in). To keep the hydraulics and pto operating, use the center position of the power director (the big stick with the button on top that comes up from the right side of the tractor near your right foot). It has three positions: forward (high range), center (neutral), and rear (low range). The center position disengages the transmission, and allows the pto and hydraulic pump to run. HTH, Karl.
