WD tire size

I'm almost finished redoing my WD. Rear tires are the last major concern. Presently it has large weather-cracked 14.9 x 28's on it and I want new tires that are more original looking. I need some information about what rim width should be used and what modern tire size would look best. Don't want the too thin and weak look either. Maybe you have a picture of your WD along with tire and rim size that I could see. Thanks.

The correct rim width for your WD would be 11". 12" rims came on a WD45. Correct tire size would be 11x28 (12.4x28), or as an option 12x28 (13.6x28) If it were mine, I'd go with the 13.6x28 on the 11" rims. That would look good, and be correct. I think the 12.4's would look unusually small. My $.02.

Bf Goodrich still makes tires for antique tractors with the original looking 45 degree angle tread. For 12.4 x 24 for my D10 they were $160 each.

Dan,
There was a great article in the Fall 2000 issue of Old Allis News on this subject. The tire designations have changed twice in the last 60 years. The first change was brought about by widening the recommended rim width for tires. The original rims would be say 9" wide and have 10X24 tires. Tire mfgrs changed the recommended rim width to 10" and this made the tire seem wider. The "new" designation for this same 10X24 tire became 11.2X24 (or something like that). Then the tire mfgrs changed where the tire was measured from the tread width to the carcass width, making this same tire now a 12X24 (or similar). I know my numbers aren't 100% correct, but I think you get the idea. Get what looks right to you or what you need to accomplish whatever job you need to do with this tractor.

I just put 12 in. rims and 13.6 tires on my wd.And love them

Dan, I Purchase two 12.4x28 8 ply B F goodrich
for my WD.They Look very close to the original,
and the size is is original except for ply.
They came with either 4 or 6 ply.
Purchase from Miller tire co.

Will have to purchase new pwr-adj rims because originals are badly rusted. Use 11" rims with 12.4 tires?
