Hi,

I picked up a bare 'C' block to replace my cracked block. This block had been apart for a number of years and came with the main caps and bearings, but I'm not real sure the caps are on the right main saddles (no markings). I believe the mains use shims like the rods. I am having the rods resized to eliminate the shims and I'd like to do the same with the mains.

There does not seem to be anything to control where the cap is in relation to the saddle (ie you can move it around when the bolts are slightly loose). Has anyone line bored one of these blocks? Do you have to do anything to control where the cap is at (dowels, etc?)? I have lots of experience with automotive engines but not very much with these tractors.

thanks for any help you can provide,
mark

You can tell easy where they go. The front main cap is machined for the thrust bearing to slide over. The rear main cap is machined offset to clear rear seal retainer plate, with the short side going to the rear. Bearing inserts always go with the tabs on the same side. I have a real bad picture of a plastigage check that I will share.
