AWFE on a B

Today I spent some time with my B. Started on the second pull. Then I decided to try to get the AWFE apart. After about an hour's work I had all four bolts out. Cleaned them up on the wire wheel and coated them with never-sieze. Now for the question.

I'm soaking the axle parts in PB Blaster, but how should I approach getting these rusty parts to move. I thought about a sledge hammer on the end of the axle, but it looks like that might distort the tube that the spindles are in. I also don't have a torch (except for a propane type). How about some suggestions?

I thought about bolting a chain to the outer hole in the axle and wrapping it around the oak tree next to the driveway and doing the same on the other side with my Farmall M as an anchor, then use a come-along to try to pull it apart.

Any other ideas? I'm not sure these things were meant to be changed after 50 years of being in the same position!

Phil

Dick,
It's the Adjustable WFE, same as used on the C.
I can't get the inner part of the axle to slide in or out.
I cross posted this on the Unofficial Allis page and got several answers. Looks like i need to buy or borrow an Oxy-Acetelyene rig to heat the outer tube.

Had the same problem with such a front end. The hydraulic jack worked for me. I forget just how I rigged it up, but across the axle from one side to the other. Now I squirt oil along the open top of the axle every so often to avoid it rusting up in the future.

There probably right if its rusted up on the inside. I think I would try to rig a hydrualic jack. I have a tractor that has that front axle at home I will take a look at it tonight and see if I can figure a easy way to move it. I changed mine but just whacked on it with a sledge, didn't take much to move it though. It had been mover out way wide for some reason. I don't think it was long before I bought it.
