WD45: Lost third gear.

In November I purchased a 1954 WD45. Although I loved it, it wasn't the prettiest of tractors. It was dirty, full of grease and oil, and at times it would slip out of third gear, but I could afford it and it was mine. I live in northern Wisconsin and use this tractor for snow removal; it has a front bucket and a rear blade which makes it a perfect match for our environment.
The problem of popping out of third gear became worse the more I used it, especially since I tried to hold it in third gear while moving snow. Now I have a total failure of third gear.
A search of the archives reveals that third gear is a weakness in AC tractors of this vintage, because it is the most often used/abused gear, and it seems I was the one to finish it off.
My plea for help is this: 1)will any other gears fail, because of the loss of third gear. 2)what is the fix: best case and worst case senario. 3)Will I be able to see what is wrong if I remove the the transmission cover?
One last question; will I have to make my own gasket if I remove the transmission cover, or is it comercially avaialible.

Removing the top should reveal the problem.
Either the shifting teeth of the gear and/or
slider are worn or you have a very worn/weak
detent. Call for more info,724-376-2489 8-5
