WC Franklin Mint

I purchased a Franklin Mint model of styled WC for a gift. Really nice model. Our 46-47 WC at home had galv.rear rims (silver/gray color) but the fronts were all orange. This model has the silver/gray on front rims also. I am disappointed in authenticity, but am I right on remembering the WC front rims being all orange? I know some guys are painting WC's and WD's with two-tone front rims. Also, when did AC start galv. rims?

My 41 WC was bought new by my wifes grandfather, and before he died back in the 70's we were talking about how different may of the WC's in our area looked. His farm was about 60 miles north of Atlanta and every once in a while he would either sell one for the dealer in Atlanta, or, if the customer was in the area, the salesman and he would let the buyer try his out to see how he liked it. He told us that many times the galv rims on the rear would have started to rust from being outside at the dealer, and that most times they were sprayed orange before delivery to make them look good. This is what was done to mine also. When I begain to strip it down for painting, under the old orange I found a coat of galv. I have heard that the way it was applied by AC left a little to be desired. i.e. Sprayed a little thin due to war time penny pinching ! My front rims have always been orange but, painting is to the owners taste. BTW I have seen AC pictures of WC's at AC meetings, and factory test that even had black wheels. In the end I believe AC didn't care about wheels, as long as the tractor was Orange. (if you get real picky, the Franklin WC is painted NEW orange too!) It's still a great model and I'm proud of mine !
