Hello everyone,
A friend of mine has had an allis ca for years that I would like to aquire. I think it would make a great project. Only problem is, niether one of us knows what it's worth. It is complete with junk tires and stuck engine. What amount of money would be fair to both of us? Thanks to all and merry Christmas. tim

Tim,
The proper way to go at this is backwards. Find out what it'll cost you to get it into working condition first. My opinion is that it isn't worth much if it's stuck and needs tires. Tom's points are well made. Make sure there are no broken castings from freezing. The brakes are probably rusted stuck too and the clutch may be stuck to the flywheel. You can also assume that the hand clutch is junk. I wouldn't give more than $200 for it myself, and that means the sheetmetal has to be excellent with no missing parts.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your good advise. A couple of hundred dollars might be a bit high. The sheet metal is indeed in fine shape, as are the fenders. Might be better off spending a bit more and refurbishing a good running machine. I would like to wind up with a restored tractor for work and play. Maybe my freind will give it to me for parts!! Ha Ha. Thanks again. Tim

Tim,
If the sheetmetal is really straight and the fenders are good, it'd be worth $200. A grille can run $50-60, a hood $75 or so. It'll add up quickly. There will be other parts on it that'll be usable as well. I'd say buy it for a parts queen and fix up another one with it.

You are going to spend almost $1000 on the engine before you are finished if you go right through it. New tires, maybe rims? You may easily spend $1500fixing it. You can buy one that runs for that or not much more. It isn't worth much. How about the transmission. If the shift lever boot is gone and the tractor has been outside there may be water damage inside the transmission. The WD I got for 50 dollars was like that. Not to discourage you, it will be a fun project, go for it.
