My 1948 model C (generator/distributor configuration) has a short from the negative pole of the battery to ground that I have not been able to find. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could supply me with a wiring diagram for the C and any hints that might seem useful.

Had a problem with my Mod. C that I finally traced to the ammeter being shorted out internally.Put an ohm meter on one of the poles and the case of the ammeter and see if you get a reading.

Having a distributor, if the points are closed it will be about 3 Ohms (near a short circuit). Also of the generator cut out relay sticks you will see low resistance to ground. Hold open the distributor points with a piece of cardboard and same for generator cutout and then see if the "short" is still there.

If you have a voltmeter, turn off all switches on the tractor and remove the grounded cable from the battery. I believe this was the positive originally. Connect the volt meter with one lead to the empty battery post and the other lead to the cable that you removed. It should show a voltage reading if you have a short. The reading may be less than battery voltage for some types of shorts. Start disconnecting the wires from various items on the tractor. When then voltmeter reading drops to zero, that item is the problem. The first thing to disconnect after the voltmeter is connected is the battery cable to the starter switch. Sometimes the paper insulator gets water soaked and drains the battery slowly. Please post your results.
