Auxillary hydraulic reservoir

Has anyone installed or built an auxillary fluid reservoir for the hydraulic system on a WD? I have a loader with cylinders so big the the hyd
system does not have enough fluid to fully extend the cylinders.

Any suggestions or experiences appreciated.

Remember that the pressure in the system can get up to 3500 lbs per sq in. Most systems operate at around 2000. I ran a WD45 as a kid (some 30 years ago and it had s simple loader that could be put on quickly with a pair of clevis pins on the loader frame, a pair on each end of the two hydraulic lift cylinders, and connect up the hydraulec coupleing. As I remember the cylinders were 2.25 to 2.5 inches outside dia. and were sinble acting. The loader was rated at one ton I think, and was more than adaquate for loading manure, lifting engines and logs and other common farm jobs. It ran of the stock reservoir just fine.

I have an IH loader mounted on my WD. The cylinders have two ports. I ran a hose from the top port back to my pump through the fitting where the dipstick is. A "tee" allows oil from each cylinder to return. Oil flows from the top side of the ram to the pump as the pump pumps into the bottom side of the ram.

I had a wd-45 with an auxillary tank on it for the purpose you have. It was a flat tank about the width of the frame rails and bolted to the rail. They had put a pipe tee on the bottom of the pump resivoire. The line from the tank connected to the tee.There was a line marked on the tank so as not to over fill.Both the pump and the tank had the same level of fluid. Worked fine for many years until I took the loader off. Remember that AC is low volume and high pressure systems. They will burst the new cylinders if you let the pump hammer too long. hope this helps.
