What visible differences are there between a WD and the WD45.I am thinking of buying one and would like to know what they are trying to sell me.

A wd45 has a curved shift lever (except for a few late WDs. The tractor serial no will say WD or WE45 at the beginning. A wd45 with a wide front end seems to have a bigger steel bracket bolted to the front to support the pivoit than a WD. The engine serial no. should also say WD or WD45. The WD on mine is faint compared to the rest of the no., I didn't notice until I cleaned the block. Except for a few late WDs the 45 has a curved support for the seat, the WD one is straight with a bend neat the seat and the shock/spring is not adjustable along the seat support rail.

there are many other differences that one can find by reading the parts manual, these are some I know of and that are easy to see. 45s and late WDs had a constant mesh transmission, 45s had a 5 disc hand clutch as opposed to 3 in the WD, the 45 raidiator has more tubes, the engine has a bigger oil pump and a longer stroke. Just some more of the differences I can remember too, not so easy to see.

Have fun looking, Tom
