Wc head washers

is there washers under the nuts that fasten the head on my wc? we have moved and things got mixed up. I&T manaul dont show anything

Washers under the head nuts do alot af things. Protects the head and nut are just a couple. Just be sure and use hardned washers. Regular plated washers are to soft they will crush and give a false torque reading. Most automotive machine shops can get the right washers. By the way the 43 AC that we just tore down had washers. Doug

The parts book shows them. Part number AM-9021, calls for 12. I don't know if they are really needed or not, but they are in the parts book.

I have three WC's , 1943,44,&53 models-- none of these have washers under the head nuts. I don't know about earlier models though.

Washers would be a good idea. They will protect the castiron head. They should fit the studs closly. Also they will spread out the clamping force of the nut over more of the head surface. Maybe not necessary but a nice extra. Often the next size smaller washer fits closer than one designated for the size fastner you are using.
