i have an allis chalmers B and it has non detergent oil and i would like to change it over to detergent has anyone any ideas or suggestions??

some older engines oil pumps would not build pressure with the muti-viscosity oils,but all the allis i have seen would.otherwise changing oils is fine in gas engine.have done it many times never a problem.

Be very careful doing this ! You can get large deposits of dirt and soot broken loose and stopping up oil passages in placs your old engine can't take ! If you want to change, I would wait until you rebuild it. Then your starting with a clean block and should have no trouble
MHO ....don't do it !

Be careful switching to detergent oils from non detergent. Detergent oils have quite severe cleaning properties. They attack gums and carbon buildup, and may make your motor start smoking. They can also attack the softer bearing metal used in older motors, and etch the bearings, resulting in bearing failure. Consult with the technical dept of your oil supplier as to whether the oil you intend to use is satisfactory for your model.
