WC or WD?

I'm an Oliver person looking possibly for an orange tractor. I'm thinking of a styled WC or WD. Any preferences or anything I should look for? Did the WD have hydraulics, snap coupler, or whatever AC used? About all I know about AC's is they are orange and the gearshift on WC's get really sloppy with wear. They look like a fairly easy tractor to operate and repair. I was plowing with a friend's WC once and the pan seat worked my wallet out of my pocket and buried it somewhere within a 4 acre area. That is my extent of AC experience.

The WD is easy to put a 3 point hitch on if you buying it to use.

WD is more modern version of WC. Similar size. WD has a little more power and foot brakes along with snap-coupler and hydralics. WC had mechanical lift for cultivators, hand brakes, stiffer seat and no power-adj wheels. I feel WC is a little easier to shift, particularly into 3rd gear. Wallet probably wouldn't come out on WD seat.....or only when you buy parts.

WD is the way to go if you plan on using it.
WD has hydraulics and live PTO (hand clutch)
WD were built from 1948 to 1953. Later ones had snap coupler.Last ones (serial 127007 and up )had synchronous transmission gears (curved shifter lever)

The last WD transmissions and WD45 transmissions had a constant mesh transmission. You shifted dogs instead of gears. They are not syncronized, still grind if you shift on the move. They are easier to shift because you are just shifting a dog instead of a whole gear as in an early WD or WC.

I'm lucky to have $5.00 on me but that day I had about $25.00. It figures. My friend who owns the farm and the tractor said it never grew.

If i were you i would forget about the WC OR WD @ try finding a WD45. The 45 was a great tractor.

I wonder why when the WD's came out they did'nt have the backrest like the WC's. Usually the new replacment model has things like a more comfortable seat, all the WD's I have seen haven't had the backrest and allmost all WC's did.

The back rest was removed on a lot of WC's after hours of field work(old timers called it a back slapper).They just wern't comfortable for rough field work.

Wow! I've never talked to anyone who had $25 in his pocket before. The WD would be the answer if you want to work it. But if you would like to use it in a manner that is near and dear to my heart,the WC is the one. The WD had trouble with the rear end, but the earlier WC had a better one. I know I might catch some heat from some people for that comment but ask someone who owns a tractor salvage yard what they sold the most rear end parts for. P.S. The near and dear thing is pulling of course. May you all have a merry Christmas and no more election returns!

WD is better if used if not no preference. WD never had rear end trouble I've known some that ran many hours or years with out oil!!!!! just think if you keep them lubed.I have a WD and been around wany WC and WD both are great tractors maybe the last good AC. If you want HYD. and Snap Coulper WD is it!! Also you aren't the only to lose your wallet on an Allis many have!!
