I have herad that the d19 was just a turbo charged d17? If it is can you put a turbo on a d17 to increase horsepower? I looked at a early d17 deisel but need 15- 20 more horse than it has. It was a great deal for the money though I think but just needed more horsepower.

I didn't get the D21 it went for $7300 but had $4500 in an overhaul done 1 year ago. Don't know about buying the D17 either because it is under the horsepower I need and am worred about breaking things when you turn the pump and that up.

I am no AC man (partial to Oliver). I know a guy who put a turbo on his D-17. I don't know what series it was. Had to cut hole in hood since it was too tall. Also added another radiator ahead of the factory one to help keep it cool. This was no toy. He used to do all his farming with it years ago. It is a toy now, but not then.

Yes Ron you can add a turbo. The 19 engine is a slightly updated version of the early 17's. The series IV 17's were the same. The only diff. I know of is the water pump is mounted on the block for better cooling and the inj. pump is a latter version with auto timing advance. Just a note, I reset my inj. pop pressure , uped the timeing, and bumped my pump up and I'm putting close to 75HP on my 17.

I think you'd need the manifold from a D19 diesel also. Are you selling a D21 or buying that first then buying the D17 if you have money left over?
