i have a 1938 B which had no electric start then it was converted the problem id there is no charging system and the block don't have the holes for the generator mount has anyone any ideas or has someone done this and made a new bracket that mounts different thank you ..bunky

you could order the correct bracket from a dealer the correct part number is ,for a generator bracket, 210990 it also needs a few common bolts.Then use a AC Delco generator converted to 6 volts. We have a gent in this area who supplies 40 amp alts. for about 60.00 bucks and a old junk AC core.

I had the same problem with my 'B', so I took a different approach. Rather than mess with clearances around the fan, I connected my alternator to the pulley on the rear and side of the PTO. A simple bracket fastened it and I added a shield for protection. The resistor in series with the regulator is a 3 ohm.
The added benefit is when I push the clutch in, the alternator adds just enough drag to slow the gears so shifting is smooth.

You could use a mounting plate that could be bolted onto the block and then attach the generator bracket to the plate. It would all be behind the generator and not show. There would be no problem drilling and tapeing four 5/16 holes through the block to hold the plate in place. You could use flat head cap screws and put gasket sealer on the threads.
I don't think I would bolt the bracket directly to the block but it might work.

I have seen an alternator mounting bracket attached to a piece of angle iron that has been mounted between the front mounting hole for the front weights and the implement mounting hole above the timing hole on the left side of the torque tube. Looked a little odd, but it seemed to work great.

I made a bracket for my model B. I mounted the bracket thru the engine mount bolt on the front left side of the engine. The mount came up to the right height then seperated with enough distance between the two upright pieces to accept the alternator bottom mounting hole. The top bracket came off the water pump bolt and bolted to the top alternator adjusting bolt hole. It worked great the entire time I owned the B. Make sure your bracket is of at least 3/8 inch thick stock
