Have removed screw which was tightened down against the key in the shaft. Cannot get pulley to budge. Is there something else holding it on?
Water pump belt is loose enough.

Seems to be no bolt in center of hand crank area of this pulley.

I am doing a rebuild on a C and had the same problem. I tried a gear puller and cracked the pulley so be careful. Ended up drilling the pulley and using a harmonic balencer puller, lots of penetrating oil and heat. When it came off I found it was a taper seat. Wishing you lots of luck.

In response to S.Ammer: 1. If I drill out the center of the pulley where the handcrank goes, is there anything at the end of the crankshaft that I could damage if I go too deep? 2. I'm just replacing the end main seal so am doing this with the radiator in place. Is there room between the end of crank and radiator support for the pulley to come off?

Thanks,
Bob T.

When I removed the pulley on my C the engine was out and torn down. As for the holes for the harmonic balancer puller I drilled two holes in the heavy part of the pulley near the crank notches and tapped them to fit 5/16-18 grade 8 bolts. I do not know if you can do this without removing the front wheel and steering box assembly.

Did you also have to drill out the center of the pulley where the harmonic puller center tip would push against?
I looks to me like where the hand crank fits into the crankshaft pulley is solid.
Thanks,
Bob T.

The pulley on the 48 C was not solid in the front but it may be on others, I don't know for sure. I do know that it took lots of heat and time to work for me.The holes i drilled were centered in the crank notch.

The crank shaft pulley will break very easy. They are cast iron and will not take beating on. You could make a slotted plate the size of the pulley that will slip over the hub that you took the screw out of and use a puller that will hook over the plate. Or you can use a bearing buster rig. I took one off a short time back that someone had drilled and taped for 3/8 studs, through the pulley on each side of the hub. This will work also, just don't beat on it.

Dick L's recommendations are right on. I don't like just pulling on thepulley and against the crank bearings. Wonder if I can drill a hole in the pulley where the crank inserts and tap it. This way the bolt will just push againt the crank end and pull on the pulley.

Anyone ever try that?

Bob I asume you are refering to crank shaft pulley.Only one set screw hold it on the keyed shaft.Might try heating it with a propane torch.
IT can be difficult to remove if it ben on the shaft a long time. good luck
