Have a1972 180 that the clutch will not disengage all the time. sometimes it will desengage when you step on brakes. Any suggestions on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like your clutch is partially releasing, being you can stop with the brakes. in my years as an a/c tech, i saw the following problems. the clutch can get wet with oil & over time, this mixes with clutch dust & makes things so sticky, that disengagment is not possible. also, sometimes one or more pressure plate release levers will break. the lever pivot area in the pressure plate can also break away. either of these problems allow only partial disengagment. also have seen the release bearing cut it's way right through the release levers. all of these problems require stretching (splitting) the tractor right behind the engine to remedy. a big project, but not a tough one.
