Wd45 reverser kit ?

A question for a friend. He says they made a kit
to turn the driver around to use a loader behind the rear tires. Is my friends age finally getting the best of him or did this "kit" exist. It gets
better, he thinks he knows where one is and was wondering what they go for now. I've known this
old man a long time, I ain't betting against him.
anybody got any idea. thanx, dave.

Tom got it right. All you have to do is invert the dif(put the ring gear on the other side).The hard part is changing the seat,steering,and shifter so you can operate the tractor backwards. c tucker

Hi, there was a tractor like that. I'm not sure if came from the Allis factory like that or was a conversion by someone else. I just looked it up in a book I have. "Allis Chalmers Agricultural Machinery by Bill Huxley" on page 46 it shows just such a tractor. It says it was based on a WF and was converted by Tractomotive Company. It looks like a nice unit to have. My brother in law has 2 industrial D15s with forklift masts.

A couple of years ago I saw a WD-45 with a Henry backhoe attached. That tractor was set up with a rear facing seat and hydraulic controls. It was for sale and tho I don't remember now what he was asking, at the time I thought it was too much. I wish I had taken a picture of it for future reference.

Call Grumelli Farm service We have a WD-45 with a A-C loader with hydraulic bucket on the back of it with the seat facing backwards. The transmission has been switched. So it has 4 reverse and 1 forward 717 786 7318

I wonder if you can reverse a transmission like this by switching the ring gear in the differential to the other side like they used to do with Volkswagens to make transpoeters (buses) and some mid engine conversions?

This conversion can also be done with a WC, but the differential has to be removed from the tractor(no access cover on back side), and you need to do some grinding of the differential casting to get enough clearance for the ring gear to be installed on the other side. WD is easier- only disassembly and reassembly required.

They did make a WD-45 with reversed gearing. In Arizona they used them under cotton pickers and they did travel backwards. I have one that was originally set up that way but was changed back when I gotit. I don't know quite how they set them up-but they did do it.

Our local Agco Allis dealer has a reversed WD or 45 that they use as a fork lift. The differential is reversed it has an AC loader mounted on the back I think the steering system is adapted from a Gleaner combine. I have seen quite a few of these over the years. Dave

I mounted a Paulson loader on the rear of my WD many years ago. No kit available that I know of. To reverse the direction of travel, jack up the tractor rear end, remove the bolts holding the axle assemblies to the tractor. Pull each assembly a few inches out, until the axles disengage from the differential. Remove the 6-8 bolts that hold the pumpkin assembly, remove from tractor, and re-install after turning 180 degrees. That puts the ring gear on the opposite side of the pinion gear, changing direction of travel. Bolt everything back in place and the job is done. Nothing in the transmission is changed! Mount the seat over the fuel tank, and build a new foot pedal assembly. Mine has pipe with shaft inside to cross over from one side of the tractor to another (clutch and brakes). The hand clutch lever is cut off at frame height and is no longer used. Hydraulic pump was added in front of the engine for independent power. Also extended the frame about 6-8 inches by adding channel iron, bolting the rear pedestal bolts into the original front holes of the channel sides, and drilling two new holes in the new channel for the front pedestal bolts. Steering wheel and shafting with pinion gears are hooked to original shaft near oil filter. Now I would do it much easier- get a hydrostatic unit from a junked combine. Excellent traction with this unit, great for picking rocks (visibility is improved), but add weights over the steering wheels because it is light on the radiator end.
