While cranking my WC,I noticed raw gas pouring out of the drip hole in the bottom of my Zenith carb.It did not make any difference if the choke butterfly was open or closed.This is only happening when cranking, the float is not stuck.When the engine fired,an impressive pyrotechnic display came out of the exhast.What's going on here ?

See if you can find my earlier questions about this. I found that my WC did this even with a known good float. Apparently the cranking draw pulls fuel up then lets it back to overflow the bowl. Mine did not leak running or setting, only if it did not fire on the first few cranks. I "solved" this by 1) turning on the fuel for 30 seconds (to be sure the bowl was full), then turning it off, starting the tractor, then turning it back on, or 2) not opening the fuel shut-off more than 1/3 turn until the engine started. Also, I get the engine turning over before I give it just a flash of choke - seems to limit the amount of fuel drawn up.

Still sounds like the float stuck, if not it's out of adjustment letting to much gas into the carb. neck. Remember the float is there to regulate gas presure against atmospheric presure which drops in the carb. during air flow. So the float could be binding or adjusted too high allowing too much gas flow under slight air draw but be close enough to allow smooth performance during run rpm.
